Cornell Police to reduce services starting March 17, 2020

In response to growing concerns over the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), the Cornell University Police Department is taking additional steps recommended by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the New York State Department of Health to promote social distancing and to reduce in-person contact. This will mean the reduction of some services, and modifications to some of our standard operating procedures.

  • For non-criminal or not in progress complaints, officers may first contact you by phone to provide assistance or take reports.
  • If you do come to the department to obtain services or file a report, please follow the instructions posted at the main entrance on how to proceed. If an officer needs to meet with you in-person, they may ask you to step outside, which is consistent with CDC recommendations to increase social distancing.
  • Lost and Found will be operating on a limited schedule and will no longer be accepting property valued at less than $20.00. Lost and Found will be open Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to noon and Thursdays from noon to 4 p.m. There will be a drop box available (24/7) in Barton Hall. Please contact Lost and Found at 607-255-7197 or for further assistance.
  • Certain services, including infant/child car seat inspections and fingerprinting for noncriminal administrative needs have been suspended at this time.

Please visit the CDC’s website for additional health precautions. Cornell-specific updates and information can be found at
