CrimeALERT: Crime Alert: Sexual Assault – Helen Newman Hall – February 9, 2022 On February 23, 2022, a female student reported to a university official that an unknown male intentionally touched her in a sexual manner on two separate occasions while they were swimming laps in the Helen Newman Pool. These incidents occurred during the early morning hours of February 9, 2022. The male is described as a white male in his mid to late 50’s, with shorter gray hair. The male also has tattoos on both shoulders, possibly butterflies. Anyone with information regarding this incident is requested to contact the Cornell University Police at (607) 255-1111 at any time or the Office of Institutional Equity and Title IX during regular office hours at (607) 255-2242 or by email at titleix@cornell.edu. The Cornell University Police reminds community members that perpetrators are responsible for criminal behavior. You can take specific actions to reduce your vulnerability: Perpetrators take advantage of vulnerability and seek opportunities to commit sexual assaults. Trust your instincts. If you feel unsafe, get to a safe place and call for help. Be active in supporting a safe and respectful community. If you see others engaging in disrespectful or inappropriate actions, speak up and get involved, or contact someone else to assist.
