CRIME ALERT- Public Notification

CrimeALERT: The Ithaca Police Department is investigating the report of an assault which occurred in the 600 block of University Avenue at approximately 10:30pm on September 2nd, 2021. The victim reports walking on the sidewalk and being struck in the head and injured with an unknown projectile which is believed to have come from a small, dark vehicle traveling on University Avenue. Preliminary investigation has determined the projectile was most likely a paintball or similar object and not a projectile from a firearm. The investigation is ongoing and no further information is being released at this time. Anyone with information related to this crime is asked to contact the Ithaca Police Department at (607) 272-9973. Cornell University Police urge the community to take steps to protect themselves by walking in groups or using the RAVE Guardian Virtual Escort and by immediately reporting any suspected criminal activity they see by dialing 911 or utilizing the RAVE Guardian app.
