CrimeALERT: On Friday May 11, Cornell University Police, Cornell Environmental Health and Safety and the Ithaca Fire Department responded to two reports of fire on central campus. The first was reported at 2:48 p.m. outside the south end of Goldwin Smith Hall. The fire was started in a trash can and had gone out prior to the arrival of first responders. The second fire was reported at 2:58 p.m. on the first floor of Rockefeller Hall, where a trash can was also set on fire. First responders arrived and extinguished the fire. The fire was contained to the trash can, and no other property was damaged. Cornell University Police canvassed the area, and there is no suspect description at this time. Cornell University Police, Cornell Environmental Health and Safety and the Ithaca Fire Department continue to investigate these incidents and ask anyone with information to call (607) 255-1111.
