Lost and Found Information
Cornell University Police Lost and Found office is located right inside Cornell Police headquarters in Barton Hall. It is the university's main Lost and Found, and the collection point for all things unclaimed.
The Lost and Found office can be reached by calling (607) 255-7197 between 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Or e-mail lostandfound-mailbox@cornell.edu
LOST AND FOUND TIPS:
We recommend checking once a month for your missing item(s)
For items that have identifying numbers, record MAKE, MODEL, and/or SERIAL NUMBER along with WHEN and WHERE purchased.
All items that can be carried, such as electronics, computers, folders, books, notebooks, etc., should have a full phone number and/or e-mail address on a small piece of paper and placed on the back of the item.Cover the paper with clear tape if needed to keep the information protected.
We also provide FREE CFCU KEYTAGS for the fast, confidential return of your keys.
NYS PERSONAL PROPERTY LAW, Article 7-B, SEC. 252, requires that all items found on campus with a value of over $20.00 be turned over to the main Lost and Found HERE -at G-8 BARTON HALL - within 10 DAYS of being found. By making the return of property to the appropriate agency a legal issue, this law expedites the return of property to the rightful owner.
We strongly encourage the return of all found items as soon as possible, regardless of value, to the main Lost and Found Office. All items are held, by law, for a minimum of three months beginning from the date they are received by Lost and Found. Regretably, not all found items find their way to the main lost and found, please check other lost and founds listed below.

Contact Barton Lost & Found at least once a month for your lost items!!
PRE & POST STOLEN & MISSING WALLET SITE:
All departments - BY LAW - are to ship all found items to Cornell Police Lost & Found within 10 days of coming into their control- although, sooner is better.
Items can be placed in campus mail envelopes or boxes
(not to exceed approx. 20 lbs.) and sealed WELL with tape.
Items such as wallets and purses should be transferred A.S.A.P.
To call for pick-up of these types of items:
255-7197 (M-F, 8-4 p.m.) or 5-1111 after hours or on weekends.
We have had better than average results of returning “found” items to their owners, however, this is dependant on help from everyone having some form of recognizable ID on your items & EMAIL & /or complete telephone #, all in legible form as a manner of contacting owners. Any items coming in with ID, such as: wallets, purses, credit cards, ID’s, checkbooks, etc. will be automatically notified, usually via email. All non-affiliated CU people need to contact CUP L & F and leave a detailed description(s) of there missing items.
