Attempted armed robbery reported on the Suspension Bridge

Cornell University Police is investigating an attempted armed robbery that occurred
at approximately 10:52 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, on the north side of the Suspension
Bridge on campus, below University Avenue and off of Fall Creek Drive.

A male victim reported that he was approached on the bridge by two males, one of
whom produced a knife and demanded the victim's property. When no property was
produced, the perpetrators fled. The victim described one perpetrator as a black
male in his 20s, with a goatee, approximately 5-foot, 11-inches tall, weighing 200
pounds and wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt. The victim was unable to give a good
description of the second perpetrator.

Both perpetrators were last seen fleeing west along Fall Creek Drive. Cornell Police
and Ithaca Police Department units were unable to locate either of the suspects.
Cornell Police is continuing the investigation.

Cornell Police reminds people to lock their windows and doors at all times, to be
aware of their surroundings at night, to avoid darkened and secluded areas, and to
walk in groups.

Members of the campus community are asked to take advantage of  the campus?s Blue
Light services, including: the Blue Light emergency telephones around campus, which
have direct lines to Cornell Police; the Blue Light bus service that operates daily
on campus from 6:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.; and the Blue Light escort service, which
provides night escorts around the Cornell campus and the closely surrounding area,
and can be requested by calling 255-7373 or by using a Blue Light phone.

All suspicious activity should be reported to the police. On campus activity can be
reported to the Cornell University Police by calling 255-1111, or 911 in case of an
emergency.

Suspicious activity off campus can be reported to the Ithaca Police Department by
calling 272-3245, or 911 in case of an emergency.
